My Favorite Dance Cover-ups

My Favorite Dance Cover-ups
I do contemporary dance on weekends, so my wardrobe usually consists of a leotard or similar, form-fitting pieces, with comfy clothes thrown over my dance clothes as a cover-up. As temperatures drop, I’ve gotten to play around with building an outfit around my dance clothes. Leggings have become an essential part of my dance and weekend wardrobe. They’re so comfortable and stretchy, so they’re perfect for dance and for lounging around. Tall, flat boots are perfect for throwing on before and after dance–they’re easy on your feet, and they keep your calves warm. Sometimes, if the weather is especially nippy, I’ll slip on some warm, fuzzy socks. They’re great for keeping your feet warm while stretching. And often, during the winter months, the freezing dance studio can start to feel like a sauna after several minutes of dance or warm up. I like to layer a sweater over a light, breathable tank top for this reason. A sweater will keep my muscles warm as I stretch, and once I’m warmed up, I can pull it off and keep cool with the tank top. Finally, keep your hair pulled back with these cute bobby pins from Anthropologie.

Divergent Inspired Look – Erudite

Divergent Inspired Look - Erudite
I love the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, and I’ve been seeing lots of fashion blogs (or Pinterest users) posting their own takes on Divergent-inspired fashion. It’s so interesting to see how different people with different styles interpret and create looks based on their favorite books, especially one like Divergent, which is based in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world. Since I began reading the Divergent series, I’ve been fascinated by the different factions, as well as the details that go into defining them. I’ve definitely identified with (the good aspects!) of the Erudite faction, so here’s the first of five posts on Divergent-inspired looks. For my own personal twist on Divergent-inspired fashion, I decided to add a bit of a chic, sophisticated, modern flare (I’m not quite ready to venture out and try a futuristic look just yet). The colors are signature of the Erudite faction, yet it’s a look that’s wearable and versatile. Classic pieces such as an A-line dress and a leather clutch with gold hardware detail reflect the cultivated nature of the Erudite faction, but pieces such as black tights, suede black ankle boots, and a tan leather jacket give the look some edge. Jewelry details can also add subtle nods to the Erudite faction–in this look, the bird on the gold midi ring resembles an eagle, considered by many to be a symbol of perspicacity. The key pendant could also symbolize the unlocking of new ideas, as the Erudites are known to do.

Hermione Granger-Inspired Look

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter. I’ve taken a college literature course on it, I’ve read the books and seen the movies more times than I can count, and I’m a dedicated Ravenclaw on Pottermore. One detail I really liked about the movies, however, (especially the last two) were Hermione Granger’s adorable sense of style. I’ve always loved Hermione’s style in the movies. Her style is simple, comfortable, yet classic. I still get fashion inspiration from her long after the books and movies have ended. One of my favorite Hermione looks are her jeans-and-sweater combos. Her pieces are functional–sneakers fit for running from Snatchers, chunky sweaters to keep her warm in the chilly Forest of Dean–yet, she still manages to keep it stylish. For a look that is characteristically Hermione, reach for clean-cut, tailored jeans, a button down shirt, and a comfy knit sweater. Finish off with some Keds, and don’t forget your beaded bag with all the essentials for surviving the hunt for Horcruxes!Hermione Granger-Inspired Look
